Case Study - Electricity & Gas Default

Electricity & Gas Default

Origin & AGL.

THE CLIENT | Leah. T

Leah is a production worker from Bonnyrigg who wanted to purchase a new home with her husband.

Bonnyrigg, NSW

Cleared in: Dec 2017

Duration: 24 Days

The Problem

Leah shared her previous accommodation with 2 other housemates, who agreed to split the cost of the electricity and gas bill. However, her housemates unexpectedly moved out, and Leah was suddenly left to cover the bills on her own.

She was unable to afford the recurring payments, which led to a blackmark from two different utility providers.

Years later, after she got married, Leah was unable to get her home loan approved even though both her and her husband had a reasonable income.

The Solution

We performed a comprehensive audit on Leah’s energy providers, Origin and AGL, and found numerous inconsistencies in the way her situation was handled. Origin and AGL did not comply with relevant legislations when dealing with Leah and did not keep sufficient records of contact with her.

This meant that the respective blackmarks were incorrectly listed, and so Origin and AGL agreed to remove their listings from Leah’s credit file. Finally, Leah was able to reapply for her home loan and move in with her husband. Congratulations, Leah!
